Missing Out, Minimalism & new Mantras’

Tonight at Cathedral City we held our second open evening! We kicked it off the right way with Tim as our Toastmaster!!

First up in our array of speakers was Hannah with “FOMO” (the fear of missing out) and if you weren’t here, you really did miss out! Hannah’s speech broke down the stages of FOMO and rounded up with a warm message about how to avoid feeling the effects and to focus on what’s right in front of you.

Tamson was our second speaker with “Filling the Void”, a speech based on the ideology of minimalism and decluttering our lives, only holding onto the things that really bring us value. Another thought provoking and persuasive speech from Tamson who is such a joy to listen to!

Our third speaker in line was Gary with a new mantra for Cathedral City to follow “What can I do to add value to my club?.” He bought us back to our core values and explained how we all make our club such a success. With the addition of the mantra to our Toastmaster promise he has challenged us all to make our club a better place!

The Table Topics Golden Triangle was bought to us by Carl tonight with the classic categories NZ History, 50/50 and Personal Profile.

Richard explained to us why Japan 🇯🇵 is his next travel destination, Nick wove us a discussion of Light v Dark with the topic of how to create a hero story. Eva made a great argument about how the climate of New Zealand is similar to Russia but a little milder, making Christchurch her perfect place to live.

Diane told a tale of the events of 1987… when she was ten. Luckily she did not have any stocks when the share market crashed, because she was ten. Jan brought us along on her great escape the day after classes finish on her road trip down South! Craig finished the table topics with his step by step guide of how to prep a bloody good steak because salt & pepper is the spice of life!!

Tonight’s meeting was then evaluated by our line up of evaluators: Matt, David, Kahu, Ellie, Ryan and JP. Some fantastic, positive evaluations, leaving our speakers feeling good with a few tips to work on!

See you all next week fellow Toastmasters!!🤟🏼
