Frequently Asked Questions
Cathedral City Toastmasters charges its members $135 every 6 months usually paid in early March and September. Most of this is passed onto Toastmasters International for membership dues, and the balance is used by the club to pay for facilities, equipment etc… but we run a pretty lean operation to keep fees as low as possible.
When signing up, there is a $50 joining fee, and depending on the time of joining some membership fees may also be payable – we will discuss this with you at the time of signing up.
Firstly, come along to a meeting and see if you like us! From there if we seem like your kind of crowd we’ll give you a membership application to fill out and you’ll be well on your way to becoming a better speaker!
Our VP of membership will support you every step of the way through joining.
Well, everything really! Through speaking at Toastmasters you’ll develop more self confidence without even realizing it. You’ll grow your leadership and communication skills while also getting the hang of throwing together a pretty neat presentation.
This personal development and growth positively impacts your performance at work and in your personal life. Whether it’s a presentation for the boss, a toast at a wedding or a seminar in front of thousands – you’ll be able to nail it!
Come and speak to us about the experience, development and opportunities that our current members have experienced, and the benefits we get that keep us coming back week after week.
That is totally up to you – there’s no pressure!
You’ll have the opportunity to introduce yourself during Table Topics because we’d love to hear a bit about you and why you decided to look into Toastmasters but again, this is optional. If you’d prefer to just sit and listen it’s all good with us!
A Toastmasters meeting is broken into two halves, in the first we have a few prepared speeches from our members, these are generally 5-7 minutes in length and subjects vary widely – there is always something interesting to hear and learn from!
Following the prepared speeches we hold a table topics session which consists of impromptu speaking ranging from 1-2 minutes and all sorts of wonderful questions are asked and answered – its alot of fun and always a few laughs had by all.
The second half of the night is about reflection and learning. Each prepared and improptu speaker is given an evaluation. The key objective of this section is about continual learning calling out what went well, and some ideas on what to work on for next time.
The meeting is chaired by the Toastmaster of the evening and we have a few other fun bits like a grammarian and a time keeper!
Come along and find out for yourself!
