A persuasively fast mini-OE
Tonight was what Toastmasters is all about. People taking first steps, people really extending their capabilities and with plenty of hearty laughs mixed in. Congratulations Kathy on pulling off such a warm and successful meeting.
Kenneth’s icebreaker speech really hit the spot tonight. ‘A mini-OE’ was a great story of a post-tertiary-education journey from Roxborough, to Melbourne & Adelaide, delivered with great clarity, pace and wonderful subtle humour. This speech was engaging from start to end, leaving the audience with some neat insight into Ken’s rich background.
‘Eat fast and live longer’ was Dave B’s speech to persuade with power, his second-last speech for the CC manual. In a neat twist, Dave revealed that the word ‘fast’ in the speech title was actually meant in the context of abstaining from eating! Dave layered up the arguments for his topic – avoiding disease, weight loss, even the increased productivity of the nation! When quizzed by evaluator JP, several people in the audience indicated that they were considering trying it now – success!
Ade’s tabletopics were phenomenally entertaining tonight. Participants had to tell a story based on a given country, then the audience got to vote as to whether the story was true or false! We had bear attacks in Yosemite, snow-storms in Toronto, sea-borne midgies in Australia, a Delhi-belly disaster and even nude sunbathing with crabs in Fiji!
See you all next time!
